The problem with sunscreen

Wednesday, July 14th, 2010

Most households in the western world have at least one sunscreen container in the bathroom cabinet. In this day and age of increased knowledge about the dangerous effects of the sun, it is important to know about the different sunscreens offered in the market and about maximizing one’s protection from the harmful exposure to the sun.
What sunscreen should one purchase? Do all sun screens fully protect against skin cancer? How much sun screen should one apply? How many times a day should we coat our skin with it?  Additional questions can and should be asked about this subject and not all questions have clear answers.

Does sunscreen provide complete protection?

Dyeing your Grey hair?

Wednesday, July 7th, 2010

Grey hair has a strong social code for the “old”, “middle aged” and “Granny” age group. Many women (and men too, these days) turn to hair dyes in order to conceal the dreaded age revealer, grey hair.

I have been grey since my late thirties and have not had the urge to cover the grey. I believe you are as young as you feel or as old as you see yourself. To be honest, it has not been easy to withstand the pressure from society,  friends try to refer me to their favorite hairdresser or even better, say kind words like ”you look very young but you will look much younger if you dye your hair”. The hardest hit was when I came to pick up my son from kindergarten and heard the kids yelling “Your grandma is here to pick you up”!!!! But still I did not fall into the hair dying loop (once you start, it is hard to stop).

Taking care of your ageing hand

Hands can look a few years younger

With proper attention and treatment, ageing signs of the hands can be reduced

Most women and some men (metrosexual men…) apply facial creams, eye creams and other anti-ageing treatments to reduce the signs of ageing of the face and body. However, hands, that are also an important age indicator, are failed to be addressed by many. Hands are the most exposed body part to ageing elements like water, house-hold chemicals and the sun, major skin ageing inducers that can be dealt with through proper measures. When dealing with ageing of hands, the symptoms include: ageing spots, thinning of the skin, general thinning of hands and protruding veins. The skin in general, including skin of the hands, produces less collagen as we age hence causing thinning of the skin, thus causing the veins to protrude and the hands to look bonier.

With proper attention and treatment, ageing signs of the hands can be reduced and the hands can look a few years younger. For those of you still young with beautiful hands, make sure to take measures to postpone ageing of hands by applying sunscreen to your hands twice a day. It is also important to wear gloves when washing dishes or if handling house hold chemicals. This will protect your hands from dryness and from the harsh effects of cleaners, detergents etc’. Popular Dermal Fillers

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

Aging is a natural process that all women and men who live to a ripe mature age will experience. Even though aging is also associated with wisdom and experience, it is not easy to convince oneself that the wrinkles and sagging skin are actually a wonderful sign of the wisdom acquired through life experience. In the past the only treatment option for aging skin and body involved invasive surgery that often results in an extreme change of facial expression and proportions and requires substantial recovery time.
The aesthetic industry has evolved in the past years offering many viable alternatives to the knife. Dermal fillers have become a common treatment for aging skin, and wrinkles. Contrary to face lift results which induce tight, flattened pulled skin, derma fillers, when injected correctly, will result in a natural fuller look  (When done poorly the outcome can include lumps and granules or even out of proportion facial contour). Radio Frequency in medicine

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

Radiofrequency (RF) energy is a useful method for generating heat, which can be used to cut, coagulate or induce metabolic processes in the body target tissue.
Radio frequency technology has been deployed in medicine for over 80 years. The first surgical procedure using ablative radiofrequency electro-surgery technique was performed in 1926 by Dr Cushing using a mono polar radiofrequency ablative device invented by W.T Bovine of Harvard University. The use of Radio frequency has since been introduced to many other fields and applications in medicine. It is used for safe tissue shrinkage in cases of malignant and non malignant tumors, for reduction of obstructive tissue in cases of sleep apnea, treatment of cardiac arrhythmia by targeting and destroying cardiac tissue that is the source of the arrhythmia. Anti aging review – Treat your skin to diamonds …

Monday, November 16th, 2009

No, this is not a heading for a jewelry review it is all about antiaging treatment; Dermolissage by EnDouceur is a breakthrough diamond Microdermabrasion system for wrinkles reduction. It is equipped with wrinkles treatment heads that exfoliate the top layer of the skin while delivering potent topical cosmeceuticals at controlled intensities. These infused topical solutions revitalize the skin and actively help treat the aging skin. According to EnDouceur, normally the large protein molecules in these anti aging solutions, will not penetrate the Epidermis; however, this technology can achieve deep infusion of these large molecule solutions, vitamins and beneficial ingredients since it causes our natural skin barrier to “break up” (mechanically with the movement of the diamond head) while concurrently bringing the flow of topical solution in contact, under negative pressure, with the “broken” skin layers.
