Stretch Marks Treatments by TriPollar

Clinically, stretch marks appear as erythematous (striae rubra) or hypopigmented (striae alba), which are linear bands of atrophic skin, usually in the areas of the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, breasts, and extremities. Histologically, striae distensae (stretch marks) demonstrate characteristic appearance of scars with evidence of thinning and flattening of the epidermis, attenuation of the rete ridges, a normal or decreased number of melanocytes, as well as thinning and retraction of the dermal collagen and elastin.

People who are most susceptible to stretch marks are pregnant women, weight lifters, and adolescents. Pregnant women get stretch marks most often during the late stages of their pregnancy when the fetus is growing quickly. Over 75% of pregnant women get stretch marks on their tummy. Other common places where stretch marks occur are the breasts, thighs and buttocks.

Weightlifters and bodybuilders are prone to stretch marks appearing on their upper arms and shoulder areas when large amount of muscle is built up quickly. Adolescents sometimes see the formation of stretch marks because of the tremendous amount of growth they experience during that period of time in their life. Most often, the stretch marks that appear during the adolescent years fade over time and either disappear completely or are much less noticeable than stretch marks formed later in life.

TriPollar Clinical Study of Stretch Marks Treatment

Over the past several years professional systems and technologies using radiofrequency (RF) technology have become the gold standard in professional clinics worldwide for aesthetic treatments for skin tightening, skin rejuvenation, cellulite reduction, fat reduction and body sculpting.

The 1st generation of RF technology for aesthetic medical purposes is called Mono- Polar RF. It uses one electrode to deliver the therapeutic electrical energy, and a return pad connected to the leg or arm to close the electrical circuit. The electric current must pass through a large part of the body and flow through the vascular system and internal organs. As a result, there is no control over penetration depth and the path of the electrical current in the body. The next generation, known as bi-polar RF technology, uses two electrodes close to each other, with the electrical current flowing between the two closely separated electrodes. The main advantage over Mono-Polar RF in bi-polar configuration is that the electrical current is confined to the treatment area, and does not flow through the entire body. Aside from the advantages of Bi-Polar PF technology, there are several limitations to the unfocused method of energy delivery in bi-polar configuration− one of which is the requirement to use higher energies in order to create the desirable clinical effect. The need for this high level of energy could result in damage to the epidermis and an unpleasant treatment sensation.

3rd generation TriPollar RF combines the therapeutic effect of Mono-Polar RF and Bi-polar RF energies in a single applicator, to simultaneously and homogeneously heat both deep and shallow tissue layers, while protecting the skin’s surface. TriPollar technology painlessly delivers focused and optimal RF energy to the targeted skin layers. Controlled energy is delivered via three or more electrodes, centred between them, and limited only to the treatment area. This focused delivery results in improved treatment efficacy that provides immediate visible results from the first treatment. The treatment is painless and pleasant due to the relatively low power needed.

TriPollar technology and Pollogen products have undergone extensive clinical trials and have been the subject of several peer-reviewed professional publications. A recent study entitled “Treatment of Striae Distensae with a TriPollar Radiofrequency Device: A Pilot Study.” Authored by Prof. Woraphong Manuskiatti and published in the Journal of Dermatological Treatment, 2009 demonstrated the efficacy of TriPollar treatments of stretch marks.

Figure 1: TriPollar stretch marks treatment result

In the clinical study, seventeen (17) females with post pregnancy stretch marks underwent six weekly treatments with the apollo powered by TriPollar device.
All treated patients saw improvement after the treatment of stretch marks with 88% satisfied or very satisfied:

Satisfaction rate of the TriPollar
stretch marks treatment
Very satisfied 65%
Satisfied 23%
Slightly satisfied 12%
The TriPollar stretch marks treatment was rated as very comfortable or extremely comfortable by 70.6% of the patients.

How comfort is the TriPollar stretch marks treatment?
comfortable 29.4%
very comfortable 64.7%
extremely comfortable 5.9%

In conclusion, clinically proven TriPollar treatment of stretch marks is comfortable and reduces the appearance of stretch marks. Moreover, patients also had circumference reduction and skin tightening on the tummy area as a result of the treatments.
