About Stretch Marks

Stretch marks, also known professionally as striae marks, are narrow, streak-like lines formed on the surface of the skin. They are red or purple in color when they first form and gradually transform into silvery-white lines.

Stretch marks occur when the dermis layer of the skin is stretched beyond its capacity within a short period of time. The tension causes breaks within the dermal layer and as a result the hypodermis skin layer, which is the layer below the dermis, is revealed.

Treatment of stretch marks is recommended when they are first formed and have a reddish color but also when they mature and turn into white-colored scars.
